ACTION PLAN FOR THE RESEARCH METHODS THAT WILL BE USED IN THE PRACTICUM.

Visual Media:

Photos and video voice, photography of the respondents will be taken to document community experience in women participation in planning and decision making in the health. At least 1 audio 4 photographs will be taken in the course of interviews.

This method is relevant to community practicum in that the evidence is gathered and documented for learning, decision making and sharing with communities and other stakeholders. Community members will be main participants with 15 women being focused.

 Materials to be used will include; camera, note books, pens.

Voices and action pictures of women participation in planning and decision making will be captured and documented.

Using existing Data (Literature review): Eg from the district health office. Sub county health office etc.

 

 

This will be desk review where, literature will be gathered from the district health office to inform the research on women participation in planning and decision making. Text books, quarterly reports from health office will be consulted.

Desk review will be the main procedure, where the student reviews any related literature similar to the research topic.

Understanding of what the women participation and decision making has been in the past and where it is currently and what it will be like in the future.

Listening sessions and public forums.

This will be mainly with the forums discussing the health issues in the community, sub county and the districts.

This will be used to learn community perception on local issues and options in women participation in planning and decision making in health sector in the community.

Participants will be the members of the community-elders and women and micro phones will be part of the materials to be used, as discussion will be the main procedure.

Understanding of the initiatives made by the government to promote and encourage women’s participation in planning and decision making in the health sector in the community, as well as an understanding of community perceptions on women in planning and decision making in health.

Interviews and focused group discussions.

This method will be used to get information about the women participation in planning and decision making in health.   Key informants in government health departments will be interviewed. Opinion leaders will be included in the focused groups discussions to get opinions on women participation in planning and decision making in health.

The focused group discussion will be used to get community (youth, women, men, elders) opinion on women participation in planning and decision making in

Health matters.

Questions and recording of responses will be used as a procedure in this method.

Qualitative and quantitative data on women participation in planning and decision making will be got and used to gauge the current situation of women in health issue.

Direct participant observation.

This method will be applied by the researcher throughout the research process. Sight will be used to gauge and compare responses from various respondents on women participation in planning and decision making in health sector.

My presence in community meetings will guide me in using direct observation method.

Clear comparison of the views from respondents and what is observed will guide the researcher in the conclusions on the research topic.

Brief about the methods statements

Practicum methods statement was accomplished through; interviews, focused group discussions, listening and observation in order to get information on women participation in planing and decision making. the key informants such as the district health officer, judiciary and opinion leaders was sought using the mentioned methods.

Focused group discussion was used to get community opinion on women participation in planning and decision making. Youth, women, men and elders were grouped and discussions conducted by each group.

All in all, various methods such as; Interviews, focused group discussion, listening sessions, public forums and Direct observation and visual Media were used to gather data from the key informants and other respondents.
